Calcite is a mineral composed essentially of Calcium carbonate, whose name is derived from the Latin word "Calx", which means "calus". This stone offers a remarkable chromatic richness, presenting itself in a wide variety of colours such as blue, red, green, orange, black and white. Crystals, depending on their purity and composition, may vary from translucent to opaque. Calcite can also reveal fascinating optical properties. One can mention the "Optical Calcite", known for its birefringence, an optical phenomenon that gives the impression of seeing objects in duplicate when they are observed through the crystal. Calcite usually forms in sedimentary environments, metamorphic rocks, and hydrothermal veins. It is also the main component of limestone and marble, making it a very widespread mineral throughout the globe. It can be found in various parts of the world, including France, Mexico, China and the USA. For millennia, Calcite has been used in many areas ranging from construction to agriculture, but also for spiritual and healing purposes.
In lithotherapy, Calcite is considered a soft and soothing stone. He is given the power to purify and amplify energies, while developing psychic faculties. According to these beliefs, Calcite would help manage anger and strengthen natural and energy defenses. Acting on different Chakras according to its color, it would facilitate meditation sessions. Calcite is a symbol of hope and forgiveness.
To preserve the quality and energies of the Calcite, we recommend avoiding thermal shocks or prolonged exposure to the sun. Chemicals and acidic environments can also alter this mineral. For cleaning, it is advisable to use a soft moistened fabric or a fillet of warm water, followed by careful drying using a soft cloth.
