The Opale Welo is a variety of Opale extracted at an altitude of more than 2500 metres in the Semien Wollo Mountains in northwestern Ethiopia. These Opales formed in silica veins only 2 or 3 metres from the surface. The Opal is a fascinating stone mainly composed of silica and water, up to 20% for some varieties. His name comes from the Sanskrit word "upala," meaning "precious stone". This remarkable gem is distinguished by its enchanting sets of colours, a unique optical phenomenon called "opalescence".
