Welo Opal is a variety of Opal mined at over 2,500 meters altitude in the Semien Wollo mountains, located in northwestern Ethiopia. These Opals formed in silica veins just 2 to 3 meters below the surface. Opal is a fascinating gemstone mainly composed of silica and water, up to 20% in some varieties. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word “upala”, meaning “precious stone”. This remarkable gem is distinguished by its enchanting play of colors, an optical phenomenon known as “opalescence”.
In crystal healing, Welo Opal is considered a magical stone that promotes emotional and spiritual healing. Its harmonious energies balance the Chakras and regulate moods, providing a sense of inner well-being and deep calm. Welo Opal is reputed to activate clairvoyance, enhance intuition, and amplify extrasensory perceptions. It is also known to facilitate meditation, encourage astral travel, and aid in mastering lucid dreams. Welo Opal symbolizes spirituality and purity.
Welo Opal requires special care to preserve its colors and quality over time. We recommend avoiding contact with chemicals or cosmetics, thermal shocks, and prolonged exposure to sunlight. Welo Opal is particularly sensitive to water and other liquids. Due to its often hydrophane nature, it can absorb liquids and temporarily become transparent and colorless. If this occurs, the stone usually regains its original appearance within a few hours to a few days by drying naturally. It is crucial not to try to speed up this process. To clean Welo Opal, simply use a soft, dry cloth. Keep it protected from humidity and light.
